Spring treasure walk! An activity kids love

Spring treasure walk: fun, easy and the best way to get the kids out!

The sun is shining, nature is displaying its best, most vibrant and beautiful colours; yet a trip to the park don’t spark as much enthusiasm from the kiddos that you would hope. Seen it, been there! At Mine4Sure, we have a lot of kids of all ages and therefore we have seen pretty much all. So we have imagined, tried and tested this activity, that we feel our parents duty to share with you: Turning a walk in the park into an exciting treasure hunt adventure!
Just a word of warning though, kids might find it so fun that all your walks in the park might just become a treasure hunt! So make sure to have some space at home for all the “treasures” they will collect.

What do you need to do a spring treasure walk?

Free printable for children and families to download, treasure walk activity

That is the best news! NOTHING!! Ok,ok, almost nothing.

  • We have already listed “treasures” to look for on the free printable, that is yours to download just here.
If there are several children, print one list per child so each has their own list and can find different things than their siblings or friends.
We designed this DIY so that you and the children can decide if you want to collect the items, when listed or just use this treasure hunt list as a “I spy with my little eye” type activity.
  • If your child wants to collect some the items listed, you may want to take a bag that is easy to carry.
  • You will also need a pen, so your children can tick the boxes as they go on.

What are the benefits of being outdoor and doing treasure hunts?

Being outside, running around is a fantastic activity for children. The benefits of being in the outdoor and in contact with nature are scientifically recognised, whatever our age.
It helps children:

  • letting off some steam,
  • give them a physical activity

Giving the children specific things to look for will

  • enhance their curiosity
  • improve their observation skills
  • raise awareness about the role of nature and the importance of its preservation
  • give you a talking point, you can ask them how they feel when they are outside, what they find beautiful, why…

An activity that keeps on giving

Kids loved this Spring Treasure Walk and can’t wait to do another one? You can make your own new list or, even more fun, get your child to make one for you, a friend or sibling. Here a few suggestions to make a new treasure hunt list :

  • Find an light green leaf
  • Collect a feather
  • Pick 6 daisies
  • Draw your favourite flower
  • Find something purple, green, orange…

Of course, this activity for children is not limited to Spring. You can download our Fall/Autumn version which is also very popular on our blog. You can also make your own version for the summer, the winter. Don’t hesitate to create your own list according to where you live and what can be found around you or the season. After all, walks in nature are great for everyone year round.
